Emerging biosecurity risk in Australia - Ghost snails

It is important to be aware of biosecurity risks around the world, so New Zealand can be prepared in case anything ever arrives on our shores.

There has been a recent incursion of "ghost" snails at the Port of Brisbane and surrounding area. This species of snail (Bulimulus sp.) is an invasive species, which infest over 500 different plant species including citrus, blueberry and corn. They can also carry bacteria and parasites that could pose a health risk.
