Some of SPS Biota's Facilitators were able to go behind the scenes at Auckland Airport with the team at Swissport.
This visit was 'airside' which is the part of the airport beyond security and customs where only authorised persons are allowed to be.
The main focus was on the 'breezeway' area, where international luggage is brought to be loaded onto the baggage belts by baggage handlers. Some planes have their luggage loaded into Air Containers, which require checks by an Accredited Person. Many baggage handlers are trained to be Accredited Person and attend courses which some of our Facilitators run.
It was very interesting for the team to see where the biosecurity equipment is held, and they even were able to see an unload of baggage in real time. This experience will help with our Accredited Person Training courses.
A huge thank you to the team at Swissport for taking us behind the scenes!
